Uzura3 / Uzura1 encoders

Uzura is an open source MP1/3 encoder coming from Japan with a characteristic that makes it stand apart from the rest: it is completely written in the Fortran programming language (probably all other MP3 encoders are written in C and ASM).

Also, if you would like to compile the sources yourself - maybe even contribute to development and tune the encoder further? - you are actually in luck! A kind soul uploaded the Compaq Visual Fortran 6.5 compiler (the specific compiler that can build Uzura) to The Internet Archive. So now you have no excuses: download the compiler, install it (preferably on Windows XP), and hack away!
